NZ Jetpilot team Rider Regan Carlyon tells us a bit about escaping our NZ Winter for some dreamy lake sunny days (and a hurricane)!
What have you been up to for the last month?
I started off my trip and ventured over to Orlando, Florida where I stayed at Taylor McCullough’s house on Lake Holden. I was lucky enough to join Guenther Oka and Tyler Higham who were staying out there too. We spent a couple of days out on Lake Minneola in Clermont and then had to head back into Orlando to bunker down when we found out Hurricane Irma was coming!
How was Hurricane Irma?
Things got pretty wild with heavy rain, 200km winds and intense lightning. It took a few days to settle down and then we found out all the lakes were closed to the public because of Sewage issues and high water levels.
I waited for a couple weeks and the lake still didn't open so I decided to book tickets to Australia and joined fellow Jet Pilot team rider Lewy Watt at his house in Canberra. I spent two weeks there riding his very own 2.0 cable system, riding the Shire waterways in Sydney with Elliot Digney, Nic Rapa and Bryce Grey. And when we had down time I would get into the gym and we had one or two cheeky nights out on the town.
Where to next?
After two weeks in Canberra, the plan is to fly to Brisbane where I will be based on the Brisbane river. With Summerset Dam being my favourite place to ride here, some friends and I have rented a house on the water for four days of solid water time.
When are you home?
Where are you this Summer?
I will be staying in NZ over the summer and riding through the contest season. Lake Karapiro is my stomping ground and it is only 30 minutes from my house. I will be based there over the summer. And I will also head over to Taupo Wake Park, Rixen Cableways NZ and Back Paddock Lakes to keep on top of my Cable riding!
